  • The 4th New Jersey Volunteers is a Civil War Reenactment Organization in New Jersey. Our goal is to educate the public about the most pivotal moment in American history through educational programs, living histories, and battle participation.

  • There are 2 main ways to join the unit, meeting us at one of our events in the Events tab or getting in contact with the us at through the Contact tab.

  • Yes, Civil War reenacting can be a very expensive hobby. While most items can be found online at reputable sutler sites, the unit will do it’s best to loan out gear for new members.

  • That’s more than fine, the unit has a variety of different roles that can be filled. These different roles can be found in the Get Involved section under the About tab.

  • Depending on the location of a reenactment or living history, you may need to drive a few hours to get to some events. But discounting a few local fundraisers, no event is required. If you think a drive is too far for you, you don’t need to make it. Most reenactments the unit attends are generally around the tri-state area.

  • We are based out of Freehold in Monmouth County, with meetings held at the Oakley House on 189 Wemrock Road.
